Happy 90th

Today, my grandmother would have been 90 years old. It still doesn't seem right that she's gone. I miss her so much! I know she's in heaven with Pappy and they aren't eating angel food cake because it has less sugar in it than regular cake. I bet Pappy is lathering on the frosting now...thick and high! And if he's not frosting the cake, he's got his finger in the frosting bowl! Mommom is probably making coffee for Pappy and for all the neighbors who are coming to celebrate.
Mommom, we miss you so much. We'll be having a party for you tonight after dinner. So, be looking down from heaven about 6:30pm California time. We'll be singing happy birthday, eating cake and icecream and celebrating how much we love you!

The Kindness of Friends

People are often really caught up in their own stuff. Kids, husbands, schedules, business deals, what's for dinner, laundry...the list can go on and on.

Honestly, I'm most often one of those people. Caught up in my own to-do list. Too busy to help, too busy to put aside my stuff.

Tonight, I was blessed by friends.

I'm really not feeling well. Head cold, sore throat, ear pressure, sneezing, watery eyes. You know, a really bad head cold. But Mommies don't get to stop. We don't get to rest. There are still Dr. well child checks, valentine's to buy, rewards for a boy who endured 3 shots, school drop offs...insert your to-do list here.

While I sat in my car with my 3 year old asleep in the back seat I got a text from this girlfriend It went something like this:

U ok? I haven't heard from you in a while and I was worried.

I sat in the front seat and was reminded of what it means to be a friend. She has her own list of stuff. Two kids, a business, a husband, parents, dinner plans, baking (lots and lots of baking) not to mention a a jack russell terrier. She didn't have to check in on me. But she did...and her text came at a really low point.

It wasn't but a little bit later, I get another text:

Would espresso chocolate chunk cookies help at all?

She was so speaking my language.

Then this:

I also have about a gallon of chicken tortilla soup without tortillas, Barefoot Contessa's recipe.

An hour later, this:

Mr. Smith heading over with your goodies!

My dinner, brought to me by friends. When I was sick and caring for my 3 kids and not really caring for myself. Thank you friends, for reminding me what real friendship is. Stopping for just a little bit and forgetting about your "stuff" to help someone else with theirs.

Cousin Speak

Today, Zack stayed home from school again. He wanted to talk on the phone to his cousin. So this morning, he had a "phone date" with his cousin, who we'll call Little Zabba.
They talked for about 10 minutes and then we had to run out to the grocery store. When we got back, Zack HAD to call Little Zabba again. When he called, she wasn't home and he left a message. Auntie called back just a few minutes later to tell him that Little Zabba had to go to school but when they got home, they could talk again.
So, when we got home from school pick up, the first thing on Zack's mind was talking to Little Zabba. He called and got to talk with her again. Now, what they talked about I have no idea but it was the last 30 seconds of the conversation that had me smiling:

Zack: When can we talk again?
LIttle Zabba: ???
Zack: Well, why don't we get up really early and then we can talk.
Little Zabba: ????
Zack: Ok, ok, Let's just get up really early so we can talk. OK!!! OK!!!! Bye.
